Company formation

Company Formation — Oldham and UK-wide

Starting a limited company? Do it right first time.

Most new directors register a company without thinking through the share structure, the right entity type, or which HMRC registrations are needed from day one. Getting those details wrong is more expensive to correct than to avoid. Edward Harris handles company formation properly — fixed fee, ACCA-qualified, same-day replies.

  • Your company registered at Companies House with the correct structure
  • Share allocation and director arrangements set up properly from the outset
  • Corporation Tax and VAT registrations handled — nothing left outstanding
  • Ongoing accounting support available from the moment you start trading

No long-term contract required. If it is not working for you, you leave with your company correctly formed, your records in hand, and nothing outstanding.

Sound familiar?

Not sure where to start with a limited company?

Most people forming a company for the first time have the same questions: sole trader or limited, what share structure to use, whether to register for VAT immediately. Companies House answers the process. It does not answer whether you are making the right structural decisions for your situation.

  • Unsure whether to go limited or stay as a sole trader right now
  • No idea what share structure or director arrangements actually make sense
  • Worried about getting the setup wrong and paying to correct it later

What a properly formed company looks like

Company formation handled correctly means the structure fits your plans from day one. The right entity type, the right share split, the right HMRC registrations — considered upfront, not patched in later.

  • Clear advice on whether limited company structure suits your situation now
  • Share structure and director setup arranged correctly from the outset
  • Companies House registration and HMRC registrations handled — nothing missed
  • Fixed fee throughout — no surprises, no hidden charges for standard formation

What you get

What company formation includes

Formation is more than a Companies House registration. The right structure, the right registrations, and no loose ends — handled from the outset so you can start trading with confidence.

01

Your Company Registered Correctly

Your company is incorporated at Companies House with the correct structure from the start. Director details, share allocation, and registered address are all handled. You receive your certificate of incorporation and the reference numbers you need to start trading.

Included as standard
02

HMRC Registrations From Day One

Once your company exists, it must be registered with HMRC for Corporation Tax — mandatory within three months of starting to trade. VAT registration is considered based on your expected turnover, and PAYE is set up if you plan to take a salary. Nothing is left for you to chase up separately.

Included as standard
03

Ongoing Accounting If You Want It

If you would like an accountant from the moment the company is formed, that is straightforward to arrange at the same time. Year-end accounts, corporation tax returns, payroll, and bookkeeping can all be set up in one conversation. One less thing to organise once you are up and running.

Why Edward Harris

Why choose us for company formation

Several accountants will register your company. Fewer will make sure it is structured correctly for what you are actually planning to do with it.

🏗️

Structured Correctly From the Start

Getting share allocation, director arrangements, and entity type wrong at formation costs more to correct than to get right first time. These decisions are considered as part of the process — not left to you to work out afterwards. You start trading with a company that fits your actual plans.

📋

HMRC Registrations, Not Just Companies House

Registering at Companies House is one step. Corporation Tax registration, VAT registration, and PAYE setup are separate obligations that catch many new directors off guard. All of them are considered and handled at formation. Nothing is left as an open item.

💬

Questions Answered the Day You Ask

Most first-time directors have questions that feel basic but matter a great deal — share classes, director loans, dividend policy, what a confirmation statement actually is. These are answered clearly and without jargon. Same-day replies, ACCA-qualified advice, no charge for the initial conversation.

Getting started

Your company formed in four straightforward steps

The process is simpler than most people expect. You provide the details; we handle Companies House and HMRC.

1

Get in touch

Call, email, or use the contact form — we reply the same day. The initial conversation is free and without pressure. You are not committing to anything by getting in touch.

2

We confirm the details

We ask for the information needed to form your company: proposed name, director details, share structure, and registered address. If you are uncertain about any of it — share split, entity type, VAT — we explain the options clearly before anything is submitted.

3

We handle the formation

Your company is registered at Companies House and the necessary HMRC registrations are arranged on your behalf. You receive your certificate of incorporation and every reference number you need. The legwork is ours.

4

You start trading with confidence

Your company exists, it is correctly structured, and you know exactly what happens next. If you want ongoing accounting support, that is easy to set up at the same time. If not, you have clean formation documents and a solid foundation to build from.

Questions

Things people usually ask before forming a company

Do I actually need an accountant to form a limited company, or can I just do it myself?+

You can register directly via Companies House for a small fee, and the process itself is straightforward. What is less straightforward is knowing whether a limited company is the right structure for your situation, what share allocation to use, and which HMRC registrations you need from day one. Getting those decisions right at formation is considerably cheaper than correcting them later, which is where having an accountant involved from the start earns its cost.

What does company formation cost with Edward Harris, and what is included?+

Formation is offered at a fixed fee covering Companies House registration and initial HMRC setup. If you want ongoing accounting support — year-end accounts, corporation tax, bookkeeping — that is quoted separately at a fixed monthly fee. The quote covers everything discussed. There are no charges that appear afterwards for work that was not agreed upfront.

I have already formed a company but the bookkeeping is in a bit of a state — can you still help?+

Yes, and it is more common than you might expect. If your company is already registered but the accounts have not kept up, catch-up work is quoted separately and honestly — you will know exactly what it costs before anything starts. Plenty of clients arrive with records in some state of disarray and leave with considerably less to worry about.

Is there a long-term contract if I use Edward Harris for formation and ongoing accounting?+

No. There is no long-term contract and no lock-in period. If you form your company with us and later decide to move to a different accountant, your records are yours and will be handed over cleanly. We would rather earn your ongoing business by being useful than bind you to a contract that makes leaving difficult.

Can you help me decide whether to stay as a sole trader or go limited?+

Yes, and this is often the first conversation. Limited company structure is not right for everyone — it depends on your expected profits, how you want to pay yourself, and your plans for growth. We will talk through both options clearly and give you a straightforward recommendation before any formation takes place, so you make the decision with full information.

What tax registrations does a new limited company need, and when?+

Corporation Tax registration with HMRC is mandatory and must be completed within three months of starting to trade — missing this deadline attracts a penalty. VAT registration is required once your taxable turnover exceeds the current threshold, though voluntary registration before that point can sometimes be beneficial. If you plan to pay yourself a salary, PAYE registration is also needed. All of these are considered and handled as part of our formation process so nothing is overlooked.
