Sound familiar?
Still not sure what your tax bill will be?
Most sole traders only think about tax when HMRC sends a reminder. By then you are working backwards through twelve months of receipts, guessing at expenses, and hoping the number is not too bad. It does not have to work this way. The information is there — it just needs to be organised throughout the year, not the week before the deadline.
- Self Assessment filed at the last minute with no idea what is owed
- Allowable expenses missed because no one checked your records properly
- No clarity on whether to register for VAT or consider incorporation
What sorted looks like
When your books are current and your accountant is proactive, the tax bill is not a surprise — it is a number you have known about for months. That changes how you plan, what you spend, and how confidently you run the business.
- Tax bill calculated well in advance so you can plan for it
- Expenses reviewed properly each year — nothing left on the table
- Clear, plain-English advice on VAT thresholds and structure options
- Fixed monthly fee — no surprise invoices at year end

Self Assessment and Tax Filing
Your Self Assessment return is prepared accurately and filed well before the January deadline — not the night before it. All allowable expenses are reviewed carefully so you are not paying more tax than necessary. You will know the figure in advance and have time to plan for it.

Records kept current throughout the year using Xero, QuickBooks, or FreeAgent — whichever suits you. Clean books mean no year-end scramble and a clear picture of your income at any point. Receipt capture is included so the admin stays manageable.

Why sole traders choose us over other accountants
There is no shortage of accountants. What is less common is one who keeps you informed throughout the year, explains things without jargon, and actually answers the phone.
Your tax bill is never a surprise
Most sole traders find out what they owe in January — which is the worst possible time to find out. We monitor your position throughout the year and give you a clear figure well in advance. That means you can plan your cash flow, not panic about it.
Questions answered the day you ask
Clients contact Hasan directly by phone, email, or WhatsApp and get a response the same day. There is no ticketing system, no waiting a week for a reply, and no being passed between staff. If something comes up mid-year, you can ask immediately.
Plain English, every time
Tax legislation is complicated. The explanation of it does not need to be. Every conversation is in plain English — what it means for your business, what you need to do, and what we will handle. No jargon, no assumption that you already know the rules.
Up and running in four steps
Switching accountants — or using one for the first time — is considerably less complicated than most people assume. The first conversation costs nothing.
Get in touch
Call 0161 706 1523, email info@edwardharris.co.uk, or use the contact form. We reply the same day. Initial conversations are free and without pressure — there is no sales pitch involved.
Free initial conversation
Hasan will ask about your business, your current situation, and what you actually need. You will get a clear explanation of what we would cover and a fixed monthly fee — no vague estimates, no obligation to proceed.
We handle the transition
If you are switching from another accountant, we contact them on your behalf and request the relevant records. If your books are behind, we catch them up. You do not need to do the legwork — that part is on us.
Your finances, under control
Books current, tax position visible, Self Assessment filed on time. Questions answered when they come up rather than saved for year end. Which is, frankly, the way it should be.
“Excellent service! Hasan took over and sorted out my accounts with a swift and hassle free service. I would highly recommend for your accounting needs.”
What sole traders usually ask us
Do you understand sole trader tax specifically, or do you mainly work with limited companies?
Sole traders make up a significant part of our client base — trades, contractors, freelancers, and consultants among them. Self Assessment, payment on account, Class 4 National Insurance, allowable expenses by trade type — these are not edge cases for us. You will not need to explain the basics before getting a useful answer.
What does it cost and what is included?
Fees are fixed monthly and agreed upfront before anything starts — no hourly rates, no surprise invoices at year end. The exact figure depends on your income level and what you need covered, which is why the initial conversation is free. As a guide, cloud accounting software and receipt capture are included with advisory services, so you are not paying separately for Xero or QuickBooks on top.
My books are behind. Is that a problem?
No. Most new clients arrive with records that are not fully up to date — that is more common than the other way around. We assess what needs doing during the initial conversation and quote for any catch-up work separately and transparently. The catch-up is finite; the ongoing fee takes over once everything is current.
Is there a minimum contract or lock-in period?
No long-term contract is required. If the arrangement is not working, you can leave with clean books and your records handed over promptly. We would rather keep clients because the service is worth keeping than because the contract makes leaving difficult.
I am close to the VAT threshold. Do you monitor that?
Yes. Crossing the VAT registration threshold without realising it is one of the more avoidable problems a sole trader can run into. Your turnover is reviewed as part of the ongoing service and you will be told well in advance if registration is approaching — with a plain-English explanation of what that means for your pricing and cash flow.
At what point does it make sense to incorporate and move to a limited company?
There is no universal answer — it depends on your profit level, how you take money out of the business, and your other income. It is a conversation worth having once profit consistently exceeds a certain threshold, because the tax position can differ significantly. Hasan will tell you honestly whether it makes sense for your situation, not just whether it is technically possible.
Less January panic, more clarity year-round.
Sole trader tax, Self Assessment, and year-round bookkeeping — all handled under a fixed monthly fee, by a chartered accountant who replies the same day.
