Tax Accountant Contractor

Tax Accountant for Contractors

Your contractor tax bill, sorted in advance.

Most contractors only find out what they owe when the deadline is close. Working with an accountant who already understands how contractor income, IR35 considerations, and dividends interact means your tax position is visible throughout the year. Fixed monthly fee, ACCA qualified, same-day replies.

  • Know your tax liability months before the HMRC deadline
  • IR35 status and contractor structure explained in plain English
  • Salary and dividend mix reviewed to keep your tax bill down
  • Less HMRC correspondence landing on your desk

Initial conversations are free and without pressure. If it is not working after three months, you leave with clean books and nothing owed.

Sound familiar?

Still not sure what your tax bill is going to be?

Contracting gives you flexibility, but it makes your tax position considerably less straightforward than a salaried role. Between deciding on a limited company structure, understanding what you can claim, and working out whether IR35 applies, it is easy to end up guessing. Most contractors end up finding out what they owe far too late to do anything useful about it.

  • Tax bill arrives as a surprise with no time to plan for it
  • Unsure whether limited company or umbrella is the right structure
  • No clear record of allowable expenses across contracts and assignments

What sorted looks like for contractors

A tax accountant who already understands how contractor income works handles your structure, your compliance, and your planning throughout the year. No scramble. No surprises at year-end. Just a clear picture of where you stand.

  • Tax liability visible throughout the year, not just at filing time
  • Company structure assessed and explained so you operate tax-efficiently
  • Allowable expenses tracked and recorded properly across all contracts
  • Fixed monthly fee with no unexpected bills from your accountant

Why Edward Harris

Why contractors choose us over a general accountant

Contractor tax has specific moving parts. An accountant who already understands them saves you a considerable amount of explaining — and catches things a generalist would miss.

📋

Tax Visibility Throughout the Year

Your tax position is not something you discover in January. Corporation tax, self assessment liabilities, and payment on account obligations are tracked and communicated throughout the year. Surprises are largely avoidable when the numbers are current.

📞

Questions Answered the Day You Ask

Contractor circumstances change — new contracts, end-of-year reviews, IR35 queries. Questions get answered the day you ask them, not days later. Clients reach Hasan by phone, email, or WhatsApp without going through a helpdesk.

🧾

No Jargon, Just Clear Advice

IR35, off-payroll working rules, dividend allowances — the rules affecting contractors are specific and can be confusing. They are explained in plain English, with the implications for your situation made clear. Which is, frankly, the way it should be.

Getting started

Up and running in four simple steps

Most contractors are set up and supported within a week. The initial conversation is free and takes around 20 minutes.

1

Get in touch

Call 0161 706 1523, email info@edwardharris.co.uk, or use the contact form. A response comes the same day. No commitment required at this stage.

2

Free initial conversation

Hasan will ask about your contracting setup, current structure, and what is not working. You will get a clear picture of what support looks like and what it costs. No pressure to proceed.

3

We handle the transition

If you are switching from a previous accountant, the handover is managed on your behalf. If your books need catching up, that is discussed honestly before you start. You do not need to sort anything out first.

4

Know where you stand, every month

From the first month onwards, your books are current, your tax position is visible, and your filing deadlines are tracked. Less of your Sunday evenings spent on spreadsheets. Considerably less to worry about.

Questions

Things contractors usually ask us first

Do you understand how contractor limited companies actually work, including IR35 and off-payroll rules?+

Yes. Contractor taxation — including the off-payroll working rules, inside and outside IR35 distinctions, and the interaction between salary, dividends, and corporation tax — is something we deal with regularly. You will not need to explain how your contracting structure works before getting a useful answer. Where IR35 status is uncertain, we will discuss it honestly rather than give you a blanket assurance.

What does it cost and what is actually included?+

Pricing is fixed monthly so there are no hourly charges or unexpected bills. What is included depends on your setup — a limited company contractor typically needs year-end accounts, corporation tax, self assessment, payroll, and ongoing tax planning. The exact fee is agreed upfront in a free initial conversation. There are no hidden extras for the services agreed at the outset.

My books are behind and my previous accountant has gone quiet — can you still help?+

This is a fairly common starting point. A catch-up exercise to bring everything current is something we handle regularly, and the cost and timescale are discussed honestly before you commit to anything. If there are outstanding filings or HMRC correspondence sitting unread, those are dealt with systematically. You do not need to have everything in order before getting in touch.

Is there a long-term contract or can I leave if it is not working?+

There is no long-term lock-in. Services run on a monthly basis and can be ended with reasonable notice. If you decide to leave, your records and accounts are handed over cleanly. The aim is to be useful enough that leaving does not become a question — but that is for you to decide.

Can you help me work out whether to operate as a limited company or use an umbrella?+

Yes. The limited company versus umbrella question depends on your day rate, contract length, IR35 status, and personal circumstances. We can work through the numbers for your specific situation so you are making the decision based on actual figures rather than general guidance found online. There is no obligation to proceed once you have that information.

How far in advance will I know what my tax bill is going to be?+

With books kept current throughout the year, your corporation tax and self assessment liabilities are visible well before the filing deadlines. Most clients know their approximate position at least three to four months ahead. Payment on account obligations are flagged in advance as well, so there are no mid-year surprises on that front either.
