Independent Contractor Tax Accountant
Your contractor tax, handled properly.
Most independent contractors are paying more tax than necessary, or finding out their bill in January with three weeks to find the money. Fixed monthly fee, ACCA-qualified accountant, same-day replies. That is the arrangement.
- Know your tax liability months before the deadline arrives
- Salary and dividend structure reviewed so you keep more of what you earn
- Corporation tax and self assessment handled together, not in isolation
- Year-round access to your accountant, not just at filing time
No long-term contract. If it is not working after three months, you leave with clean records and nothing owed.

Sound familiar?
Still not sure what your tax bill will be?
Independent contractors running through a limited company face a particular version of this problem. There are two tax returns to coordinate, a salary and dividend split to get right, and a self assessment deadline sitting quietly in the background. Most find out what they owe far too late to plan for it properly. Which is, frankly, avoidable.
- Tax bill arrives as a surprise with no time to prepare for it
- Salary and dividend split chosen by guesswork rather than calculation
- Corporation tax and self assessment handled separately, creating gaps
What sorted looks like for contractors
Your corporation tax liability is calculated well before year end. Your salary and dividend structure is reviewed annually and adjusted if needed. Both tax returns are coordinated by the same accountant who already knows your numbers.
- Tax liability calculated and communicated months before it is due
- Optimal salary and dividend split calculated each year, not estimated
- Corporation tax and self assessment coordinated together as one job
- Fixed monthly fee covering both returns, no unexpected invoices

Why contractors choose us over larger firms
Three things that make a practical difference when you are running a limited company and trying to get on with actual work.
Both Returns, One Accountant
Your corporation tax and personal self assessment are handled by the same person who already knows your company’s numbers. Nothing falls between two desks or two conversations. Coordination is not something you have to manage yourself.
Tax Bill Known in Advance
Your liability is calculated and communicated well before the payment date. If there is a planning opportunity before year end, you will hear about it in time to act on it. January should not be the first time you see the number.
Questions Answered the Same Day
Contractors often have questions outside the annual filing cycle — about dividend timing, expenses, or what a new contract means for their accounts. Questions get answered the day you ask them, not after a week of chasing.
Up and running in four straightforward steps
Most contractors are fully onboarded within a week. The first conversation costs nothing and involves no pressure to proceed.
Get in touch
Call 0161 706 1523, email info@edwardharris.co.uk, or use the contact form. We reply the same day. The initial conversation is free and without any obligation to proceed.
Free initial conversation
We discuss your current setup — limited company or sole trader, what you are filing, and what is not working. No jargon, no sales pressure. You will leave the call with a clear picture of what needs doing and a fixed quote.
We take care of the switch
If you are moving from another accountant, we handle the professional handover. We request the records we need and sort out any backlog. You do not need to coordinate between the old firm and us.
Focus on your work, not the admin
Your accounts are current, your tax bills are visible months in advance, and questions get answered the day you ask. The financial administration of running a limited company largely stops being something that occupies your evenings.
“Excellent service! Hasan took over and sorted out my accounts with a swift and hassle free service. I would highly recommend for your accounting needs.”
Things contractors usually ask us first
Do you understand how limited company contractors are actually paid — salary, dividends, and the implications for both returns?
Yes. The salary and dividend structure for limited company contractors is something we deal with routinely. We review the split each year based on your corporation tax position, your personal allowance, and dividend tax thresholds. You will not need to explain how your company pays you before getting a useful answer.
What does it actually cost, and what is included in the fee?
Pricing is fixed monthly and quoted clearly before you commit to anything. For independent contractors, the fee typically covers year-end accounts, corporation tax return, CT600 filing, personal self assessment, and ongoing tax planning. There are no separate invoices for each job and no surprises at year end. We confirm the exact figure during the free initial conversation.
My books are a bit of a mess. Can you still take me on?
Most contractors who come to us arrive with accounts in some state of disarray — missing receipts, unreconciled bank statements, or returns filed late by a previous accountant. We assess what needs catching up during the initial conversation and confirm any one-off catch-up cost upfront. The process of getting the records into order is something we manage, not you.
Is there a long-term contract or minimum commitment?
No long-term contract. If you decide after a few months that it is not the right fit, you leave with clean records transferred to whoever you choose next and nothing further owed. We do not believe in tying clients in. The arrangement continues because it is working, not because of a contract.
I work through a limited company. Do I still need to file a personal self assessment?
Yes — as a director and shareholder of your own limited company, you are required to file a personal self assessment return each year in addition to the company’s corporation tax return. We handle both returns and coordinate them so your personal tax liability accounts correctly for the salary and dividends your company has paid. Nothing is duplicated or missed.
How far in advance will I know my tax bill?
As a rule, your corporation tax liability is calculated and communicated to you before the end of your accounting year wherever possible — and your self assessment liability is confirmed well before the January filing deadline. The goal is that you know the number with enough time to plan for it, not enough time to panic about it.
Less time worrying about tax. More on the contract.
