Sound familiar?
Still doing the books yourself on a Sunday evening?
Cloud accounting software is widely available. The problem is that buying Xero or QuickBooks does not mean your records stay current, your bank feed gets reconciled, or your VAT position is visible at a glance. Most business owners end up with months of uncategorised transactions and a vague sense that the year-end is going to be painful. Which it usually is.
- Months of unreconciled transactions sitting in the bank feed
- No clear picture of what tax is owed or when
- VAT return deadlines arriving before the books are anywhere near ready
What current books actually look like
When bookkeeping is handled properly on cloud software, your records reflect reality — this week, not last quarter. You can see your position, your accountant can flag problems early, and VAT returns are a formality rather than a fortnight of work.
- Bank feed reconciled monthly — no backlog, no year-end panic
- Tax position visible throughout the year, not just in January
- VAT return prepared from records that are already clean and current
- Fixed monthly fee — no surprises on the invoice either
What clients say about keeping clean books
Business owners across Greater Manchester and the UK have moved from spreadsheet chaos to monthly clarity. Here is what a couple of them noticed first.
Hasan at Edward Harris has been superb for us. He has organised our books, compiled documentation for HMRC and been proactive with advice. Best accountant I have used.
We have been working with Hasan for almost a year. He’s been very helpful providing us with knowledge as new business owners. It’s great we can WhatsApp for general queries, making communication more efficient.
What the monthly bookkeeping service covers
Three things that between them keep your records current, your compliance on track, and your tax position visible — without you having to think about it.
Monthly Reconciliation and Records
Your bank feed is reconciled and transactions categorised every month, using Xero, QuickBooks Online, or FreeAgent depending on what suits your business. Dext or a similar receipt-capture tool handles supplier invoices and expenses so nothing gets lost. By the time your accountant needs to look at the numbers, they are already clean.
Included as standardVAT Returns and MTD Compliance
VAT returns are prepared from bookkeeping records that are already current — no last-minute scramble, no manual spreadsheet submissions. Making Tax Digital requirements are handled from day one, including digital linking and submission through HMRC-recognised software. Your VAT threshold is monitored throughout the year, so registration obligations do not catch you off guard.
MTD-compliantYear-Round Visibility and Support
Because the records are maintained monthly, your accountant can see problems early and flag them before they become expensive. Management information is available when you need it, rather than reconstructed at year end. Questions get answered the day you ask them — by phone, email, or WhatsApp.

Why this firm over any other bookkeeping service
There is no shortage of accountants offering cloud bookkeeping. The difference is in how it is delivered — and what you actually get access to.
Certified on the software you use
Hasan is certified on Xero, QuickBooks Online, FreeAgent, and Dext — not just broadly familiar with them. That matters when something unusual comes up in your bank feed or a software setting is quietly causing miscategorisation. You get an accountant who already knows how the tools work, not one learning on your books.
Bookkeeping done monthly, not annually
Many businesses call their bookkeeping ‘cloud-based’ but only look at it once a year. Here, records are maintained and reconciled every month. That means your VAT is always ready, your tax position is always visible, and year-end accounts are a summary of work already done rather than a reconstruction exercise.
Questions answered the day you ask
Bookkeeping queries tend to be time-sensitive — a payment you cannot place, a transaction you are not sure how to categorise, a VAT question before an invoice goes out. Same-day replies by phone, email, or WhatsApp mean you get an answer when it is still useful. Which is, frankly, the way it should be.
Up and running in four straightforward steps
Most clients are fully set up within a week. There is no long checklist on your side — we handle the setup and let you know what we need as we go.
Get in touch
Call 0161 706 1523, email info@edwardharris.co.uk, or use the contact form and we will reply the same day. The initial conversation is free and without pressure — it is just a discussion about your business and what you need.
We assess your current setup
We look at what software you are using, whether your records are current or need catching up, and what your VAT and MTD obligations are. If there is a backlog, we will quote for that separately and honestly — no surprises.
We set up and take over
We configure or take over your cloud software, connect bank feeds, set up receipt capture, and deal with any HMRC agent authorisations needed. You will be asked for a few things — bank access, login credentials, HMRC reference numbers — and that is largely it on your side.
Your books stay current
From the first full month, your records are reconciled and your VAT position is clear. You stop thinking about the books because there is nothing to think about. Your tax bill is not a surprise. Your accountant already knows your numbers. That is what sorted looks like.
“I had the pleasure of working with Hasan for our business’s financial needs, and I couldn’t be more satisfied. They provided exceptional service, demonstrating a deep understanding of accounting principles and tax regulations. Hasan is always prompt in responding to my inquiries and made complex financial concepts easy to understand. Their attention to detail and commitment to accuracy gave me great confidence in my financial decisions. I highly recommend them for anyone looking for a reliable and knowledgeable accountant”
A few things people usually ask first
Does cloud bookkeeping mean I have to do more myself?
No — quite the opposite. Cloud software like Xero or QuickBooks automates bank feeds and receipt matching, which reduces the manual work considerably. Your job is to send through receipts and flag anything unusual. The categorisation, reconciliation, and VAT preparation are handled on our side. You get visibility without the admin.
What does cloud bookkeeping cost, and what is included?
Pricing is a fixed monthly fee agreed upfront, based on your transaction volume, VAT registration status, and whether payroll is included. The fee covers monthly reconciliation, VAT returns, MTD submissions, and year-round support. Software costs are discussed during the initial call — in most cases, Xero or QuickBooks can be included or arranged through us at a better rate than going direct.
My books are a mess. Do I need to sort them out before switching?
No. We assess the current state of your records during the onboarding conversation and quote for any catch-up work separately, honestly, before anything starts. Most clients who come to us are arriving with books in some state of disarray. It is a common starting point, not a disqualifying one.
Is there a long-term contract?
No long-term contract. The arrangement works on a rolling monthly basis. If it is not working for you, give notice and we will export your records in a format your next accountant can use — you will not be left without your own data. We would rather earn your continued business each month than lock you in.
Which cloud accounting software do you work with?
We are certified on Xero, QuickBooks Online, and FreeAgent, and use Dext for receipt capture. If you are already on one of these platforms, we can take over your existing subscription. If you are starting fresh, we will recommend the best fit for your business type and transaction volume. We do not push one platform over another — it depends on what actually suits you.
Will I be able to see my tax position throughout the year, not just at year end?
Yes — that is one of the main practical benefits of monthly cloud bookkeeping. Because your records are current at all times, your accountant can run a corporation tax or self assessment estimate at any point in the year. You will know broadly what is owed well before any deadline, which means no January surprises and time to plan if the number is larger than expected.
Leave the Sunday evening spreadsheets behind for good.
Cloud bookkeeping handled monthly, VAT-compliant, MTD-ready, and priced at a fixed monthly fee. Get in touch and we will confirm what is included and what it costs — same day.
