Chartered Accountants for Startups

Starting a business is hard enough. The accounts shouldn’t be.

Most new business owners spend far too long worrying about whether they’ve set things up correctly — structure, VAT, payroll, corporation tax. Hasan Mahmood ACCA handles all of it, with fixed monthly pricing, no jargon, and same-day replies when you need an answer.

  • Know your tax position before HMRC sends the reminder
  • Correct business structure from day one, not year three
  • VAT threshold monitored so registration is never a surprise
  • Cloud bookkeeping set up so your numbers are always current

Initial conversations are free and without pressure. If it is not working after three months, you leave with clean books and nothing owed.

Sound familiar?

Not sure if you’ve set your business up correctly?

A lot of new business owners make early decisions — sole trader or limited company, VAT registration, payroll structure — without fully understanding the tax consequences. Those decisions are hard to undo later. The admin quietly stacks up, and by the time year-end arrives, there are usually a few unwelcome surprises in there.

  • Unsure whether sole trader or limited company is the right structure
  • No clear picture of what tax is owed or when it falls due
  • Books not up to date, so decisions get made without reliable numbers

What starting right looks like

The right structure, set up properly from the beginning. Your tax position visible throughout the year, not just in January. And books that are current enough to actually inform your decisions.

  • Business structure reviewed and set up correctly from the outset
  • Tax bill estimated well ahead of the deadline, with no late surprises
  • Cloud bookkeeping kept current so your numbers are always usable
  • Fixed monthly fee with no surprise invoices at year-end

Why Edward Harris

Why startups choose us over a general practice

Most accountants will take on a new company. Fewer actually help you start right — with the right structure, visible tax position, and someone who answers the phone.

🏗️

Structure Advice From The Start

Sole trader or limited company is not a trivial question when tax efficiency and liability are involved. The answer is reviewed against your specific situation before you commit — not explained after the fact. Getting it right at the start costs considerably less than restructuring later.

📅

Tax Visible Well Before Deadlines

Your corporation tax and self assessment obligations are estimated throughout the year, not assembled in January under pressure. You know what is coming and can plan accordingly. Unexpected tax bills are largely avoidable when the books are current.

💬

Questions Answered The Day You Ask

New business owners tend to have a lot of questions — about payroll, VAT thresholds, expenses, dividends. Same-day replies by phone, email, and WhatsApp mean those questions do not sit unanswered while you are trying to run a business. Which is, frankly, the way it should be.

Getting started

Up and running in four straightforward steps

Most clients are onboarded within a few days of first contact. The process is designed to require as little from you as possible.

1

Get in touch

Call 0161 706 1523, email info@edwardharris.co.uk, or use the contact form. There is no obligation and the initial conversation is free. A reply comes the same day.

2

Free initial conversation

Hasan will ask about your business, your current situation, and what you are trying to achieve. You will get a clear picture of what is involved and a fixed quote — no vague estimates.

3

We handle the transition

If you are switching from another accountant, the handover is managed for you. If you are starting fresh, cloud accounting is set up and your records are brought current. You do not need to spend a weekend sorting through paperwork.

4

Focus on growing the business

Compliance is handled, your tax position is visible, and questions get answered when they arise. You have an accountant who already knows how your business works — which means fewer surprises and considerably less to worry about.

Questions

Things new business owners usually ask

Do you help with choosing between sole trader and limited company?+

Yes, and it is one of the first things worth getting right. The answer depends on your expected profit, how you want to pay yourself, your liability exposure, and your plans for the business. Hasan will work through your specific situation and explain the tax implications of each option in plain English before you make a decision.

What does it cost and what is included?+

Fees are fixed monthly and agreed upfront — no surprise invoices at year-end and no itemised charges for routine queries. What is included depends on your business, but typically covers bookkeeping, VAT returns, year-end accounts, corporation tax or self assessment, and payroll where needed. A clear quote is provided after the initial conversation.

My books are a bit of a mess from when I was doing them myself. Is that a problem?+

It is a common starting point, not a barrier. Catch-up bookkeeping is offered to bring records current before ongoing work begins. The cost depends on how far back the work needs to go and what records are available — that is discussed honestly before anything is agreed.

Is there a long-term contract?+

No long-term contract. Monthly rolling arrangements are standard, with reasonable notice to end the engagement. If things are not working, you leave with clean, exportable books and nothing further owed. The goal is to be worth staying for, not difficult to leave.

Can you help with company formation as well as ongoing accounting?+

Yes. Company formation, registered office address considerations, and the initial company secretarial setup are all handled. Starting with the right structure in place from day one makes everything downstream — payroll, dividends, corporation tax — considerably simpler.

When will I know what my tax bill is going to be?+

The intention is that you never reach year-end without a reasonable estimate of your tax position. Corporation tax and self assessment liabilities are reviewed throughout the year as part of ongoing work, so the figure is visible well before any payment deadline. That way, there is time to plan rather than simply react.
