Sound familiar?
Running jobs well. The books, not so much.
Construction is project-based, which means income arrives in lumps, costs spread across several sites, and CIS deductions need tracking for every subcontractor you pay. Most general accountants treat it like any other trade and leave you to figure out the detail. The result is books that are always slightly behind, CIS statements filed under pressure, and a tax bill that lands without much warning.
- ✕ CIS deductions not properly verified — risking penalties or missed reclaims
- ✕ No clear view of which projects made a profit and which quietly lost money
- ✕ Year-end scramble to find invoices and match costs to the right job
What sorted looks like
CIS handled correctly, project costs allocated to the right jobs, and a running picture of your tax position throughout the year. Nothing left to find at year end, and no bill that comes as a shock.
- ✓ CIS verified, submitted, and reconciled — no penalties, no missed reclaims
- ✓ Project-level cost tracking so you see where each job stands
- ✓ Books reconciled monthly — nothing left to chase at year end
- ✓ Fixed monthly fee — you know exactly what the accounting costs before you sign
What construction clients say about us

Everything construction project accounting covers
A fixed monthly service covering CIS compliance, project bookkeeping, and proactive tax planning — with nothing left to surprise you at year end.
CIS Payroll and Compliance
Subcontractor verifications, monthly CIS returns, and deduction statements are handled each month so your obligations to HMRC stay current. Overpaid CIS is identified and reclaimed where possible — which is frequently worth more than the cost of the service. You will not be left guessing whether the figures are right.
Included as standardProject Cost Tracking
Costs are allocated to the correct projects as they come in, giving you a running view of what each job is actually earning. When a contract is complete, the margin is clear rather than buried in a general ledger. That information makes quoting and planning considerably more reliable.
Included as standardTax Planning and Year-End Accounts
Corporation tax and self assessment are prepared with your full-year position in view, not assembled in a rush after the year closes. You will know your likely tax liability several months before payment is due — which gives time to plan rather than react. Year-end accounts, CT600, and all relevant HMRC submissions are included.
Included as standardConsistent results across different businesses
Clients range from sole-trader contractors to growing limited companies. The feedback tends to say the same things: fast responses, clear explanations, no surprises.

Why construction businesses choose us
There are plenty of general accountants. Fewer who already understand CIS, project costing, and how construction cash flow actually works.
No explaining CIS from scratch
Subcontractor verification, monthly CIS returns, deduction statements — these are part of the standard service, not an add-on you have to ask for. You will not spend the first three months educating your accountant on how the Construction Industry Scheme works. It is already handled.
Project visibility, not just compliance
Filing the right returns is the minimum. Knowing which projects are actually profitable is what helps you run the business better. Costs are tracked at job level throughout the year so the picture is current, not reconstructed from memory at year end.
Questions answered the day you ask
When a subcontractor query lands or an HMRC letter arrives on site, you get a same-day response — not a message that sits in a queue. Clients consistently highlight Hasan’s response speed as one of the main reasons they stay.
Up and running in four straightforward steps
Most clients are fully set up within a week or two. The process is designed to be as light on your time as possible.
Get in touch
Call 0161 706 1523, email info@edwardharris.co.uk, or fill in the contact form. We reply the same day. The initial conversation is free and without any pressure to proceed.
Free initial conversation
We will discuss your projects, your current setup, and what is working less well than it should. You will leave the call with a clear picture of what the service covers and what it costs — before committing to anything.
We handle the transition
If you are switching from another accountant, we request the records directly and manage the handover. If your books need bringing up to date, we handle the catch-up. You do not need to do much beyond say yes.
Back to running the business
CIS is managed, books are current, and your tax position is visible throughout the year. The parts of running a construction business that used to sit on a to-do list are handled — which is, frankly, how it should have been all along.
“We have been working with Hasan for almost a year. He’s been very helpful providing us with knowledge as new business owners. It’s great we can WhatsApp for general queries, making communication more efficient.”
Things people usually ask before starting
Do you actually understand CIS, subcontractor deductions, and how construction project accounting works?
Yes — CIS payroll, monthly returns, subcontractor verifications, and deduction statements are part of the standard service for construction clients, not something bolted on. Project-level cost tracking is included so you can see what each job is earning, not just whether the returns are filed. You will not need to explain how CIS works before getting a useful answer.
What does it cost and what is included?
Pricing is fixed and agreed upfront, so there are no unexpected invoices when work takes longer than expected. The fee covers bookkeeping, CIS payroll, VAT returns, year-end accounts, corporation tax or self assessment, and proactive tax planning throughout the year. The exact figure depends on the size and complexity of your business — the initial conversation is free and will result in a clear quote before you commit to anything.
My books are behind. Can you take that on?
Regularly. Most new clients come across with books that are partially complete, spread across multiple spreadsheets, or simply months out of date. A catch-up is costed separately from the ongoing monthly fee and quoted before any work begins. Once the books are current, the monthly service keeps them that way.
Is there a long-term contract?
No. There is no lock-in beyond a short notice period to allow for an orderly handover if you decide to leave. The intention is that the service is worth staying for on its own merits. If it is not working after three months, you leave with clean books and nothing owed beyond what has been used.
Can you help if I use subbies paid under both CIS and direct employment?
Yes — mixed payrolls with both PAYE employees and CIS subcontractors are handled together. The distinction between employment status and subcontractor status is something HMRC takes seriously, and it is worth getting right from the outset. We will make sure both are processed correctly and separately.
How far in advance will I know what my tax bill is going to be?
For most construction clients, you should have a reliable estimate of your corporation tax or self assessment liability several months before the payment deadline. The books are reconciled monthly rather than assembled at year end, which means the numbers exist in time to plan around them. No surprises, and enough notice to make sensible decisions about timing if there is anything that can be done.
Less time on the books. More on the build.
