Accountant for Startups

Accountant for Startups

Starting a business is hard enough. The accounts shouldn’t be.

Most new business owners spend more time worrying about HMRC than running their business. An ACCA-qualified accountant who works with new companies every day changes that. Fixed monthly fee, no surprise bills, and questions answered the same day you ask them.

  • Know your tax position from the day you launch
  • Correct business structure chosen before you register
  • Your books current, your compliance handled year-round
  • Plain-English advice whenever you need it, no jargon

No long-term contract. If things are not working after three months, you leave with clean books and nothing owed.

Sound familiar?

Not sure what you should have set up from the start?

Many new business owners choose a structure based on what a friend told them, register for taxes they do not need, and miss the ones they do. The first year ends with a tax bill they were not expecting, filed at the last minute by an accountant they cannot get hold of. None of that is inevitable.

  • ✕ Unsure whether to trade as sole trader or limited company
  • ✕ No idea what the tax bill will be until the deadline arrives
  • ✕ Questions piling up with no accountant who responds quickly

What starting right actually looks like

The right structure, registered correctly, with an accountant who keeps you informed throughout the year. Your compliance handled, your questions answered the same day, and your tax bill visible months before it is due.

  • ✓ Correct structure chosen before registration — explained in plain English
  • ✓ Tax position visible throughout the year, not just at deadline
  • ✓ Questions answered the same day you ask them
  • ✓ Fixed monthly fee — no surprise invoices as your business grows

Why Edward Harris

What makes this firm the right fit for a startup

Most accountants are set up for established businesses. Edward Harris was built with new companies in mind — patient guidance, proactive support, and plain-English answers from day one.

🧭

Already know how startups work

Sole trader versus limited company, VAT threshold monitoring, director salary and dividend structure — you will not need to explain the basics before getting a useful answer. These are decisions Hasan works through with new clients every week. The conversation starts at the right level.

📅

No year-end surprises

Your tax position is visible throughout the year, not only when the deadline is approaching. If a tax bill is building, you will know about it in time to plan around it. That is considerably more useful than a figure that arrives in January.

💬

Questions answered, not queued

Phone, email, or WhatsApp — contact form replies come the same day. For a new business owner who does not know what is normal, quick access to an accountant who will simply answer the question is worth more than most technical services on the list.

Getting started

Up and running in four straightforward steps

The process is designed to take as little of your time as possible. Most new clients are fully set up within a week of first contact.

1

Get in touch

Call 0161 706 1523, email info@edwardharris.co.uk, or use the contact form. There is no charge for the initial conversation and no pressure to proceed. A same-day reply is standard.

2

Free initial conversation

Hasan will ask about your business, your current situation, and what you are trying to achieve. You will get answers to the questions you came with, and a clear picture of what engagement would look like. No jargon, no sales pitch.

3

We handle the setup

Company formation, HMRC registrations, and cloud accounting software are configured for you. If your books are already in some state of disarray, a catch-up is arranged. You do very little at this stage beyond sharing access.

4

Focus on your business

Compliance is handled, your numbers are current, and your tax bill is visible months before it is due. Questions get answered the day you ask them. Which is, frankly, the way it should be from the start.

Questions

Things new business owners usually ask us

Should I start as a sole trader or register a limited company?+

It depends on your expected profit, your appetite for personal liability, and whether clients or investors require a limited structure. There is no universal answer. In your initial conversation, Hasan will work through the numbers with you and explain the tax and legal implications of each option clearly — so you make the choice that suits your situation, not the one that is easiest to explain.

What does it cost and what is included?+

Pricing is fixed monthly and agreed upfront — no hourly rates, no surprise invoices when you send an extra email. What is included depends on your setup: company formation clients typically have bookkeeping, year-end accounts, corporation tax, and advisory included. Get in touch for a quote specific to your business and we will confirm the figure in writing before you commit to anything.

What if my books are already in a mess from the first few months of trading?+

That is a common starting point. A catch-up exercise is arranged as part of onboarding — the cost is agreed upfront so there are no surprises. Once the books are current, the monthly service takes over and keeps them that way. Most clients arrive with things in some state of disarray and leave the first conversation considerably less worried about it.

Is there a long-term contract or minimum commitment?+

No. There is no lock-in beyond reasonable notice — typically one month. If the arrangement is not working, you leave with clean, up-to-date records and nothing outstanding. The goal is that you stay because the service is worth it, not because a contract makes leaving inconvenient.

Do you handle company formation and HMRC registration, or just the accounts?+

Both. Edward Harris can register your limited company at Companies House, handle corporation tax registration with HMRC, set up PAYE if you plan to take a salary, and advise on VAT registration timing. Getting these registrations right at the start avoids corrections later, which are rarely straightforward.

How far in advance will I know what my first tax bill is going to be?+

With current bookkeeping and quarterly management accounts, your tax liability is visible well before the payment deadline — typically several months in advance. That gives you time to set aside the right amount, plan any legitimate reductions, and avoid the situation where the bill arrives as a surprise in the same month it is due.
