Budgeting Services Manchester

Your business budget, actually working for you.

Most Manchester business owners know roughly what they earn. Fewer know where it goes, what they can safely spend, or what the tax bill will be in six months. A budget built on your real numbers — and reviewed through the year — changes that. Fixed monthly fee, ACCA-qualified accountant, same-day replies.

  • A working budget built on your actual figures, not guesswork
  • Cash flow visibility before committing to any significant spending
  • Tax liability estimated and visible months before the deadline
  • Year-round check-ins so the budget reflects how the business is actually performing

Initial conversations are free and without pressure. If you decide it is not the right fit, nothing is owed and your books stay with you.

Sound familiar?

Running the business on instinct rather than numbers?

A lot of Manchester business owners make spending decisions without a clear picture of what the cash position will look like in three months. The tax bill arrives as a surprise. A big purchase gets made, and the timing turns out to be wrong. None of this is unusual — but most of it is avoidable when there is a budget that actually reflects how the business works.

  • ✕ No forecast, so major spending decisions rely on gut feel
  • ✕ Tax bill unknown until the accountant files — often too late to plan
  • ✕ Cash flow gaps appearing without warning, mid-month or mid-quarter

What a working budget looks like

A budget built on your real revenue patterns and cost base, reviewed at regular intervals through the year. The numbers reflect your business — not a template. You see what is coming before it arrives.

  • ✓ A forecast built on your actual figures, reviewed and adjusted quarterly
  • ✓ Tax liability calculated and visible months before the payment deadline
  • ✓ Cash flow modelled so shortfalls show up on a spreadsheet, not in your bank
  • ✓ Fixed monthly fee — no hourly rates, no invoice surprises

What you get

Three things a proper budget gives you

Budgeting support from Edward Harris covers the numbers you need to make decisions — not just the numbers HMRC requires at year-end.

01

A Budget Built on Your Numbers

Your budget is built using actual revenue patterns, cost history, and planned activity — not a generic template. It is set up in your cloud accounting software so it sits alongside your live figures. Variances show up automatically, so you can see where the plan and reality have drifted apart.

Included as standard
02

Cash Flow Forecasting

A cash flow forecast runs alongside the budget and shows you what the bank balance is likely to look like week by week or month by month. Tight periods show up early enough to do something about them. Large outgoings — tax payments, VAT, payroll — are built in so they do not come as a surprise.

Included with advisory services
03

Quarterly Budget Reviews

A budget written in January is rarely accurate by June. Regular check-ins mean the forecast is updated as the business changes — new contracts, unexpected costs, or a quieter than expected quarter. You leave each review knowing where you stand and what the rest of the year looks like.

Why Edward Harris

What makes this different from filing-only accountancy

Most accountants produce your year-end accounts and file your returns. Budgeting support goes further — and it requires an accountant willing to engage with your business throughout the year.

📊

Budgets Tied to Live Accounts

Your budget is not a standalone document — it sits inside your Xero, QuickBooks, or FreeAgent file alongside your real figures. Every month, actuals are automatically compared to the plan. You can see whether you are ahead or behind without asking anyone to run a report.

📅

Tax Liability Visible All Year

Corporation tax and self assessment bills are calculated from your current figures, not just at year-end. If the numbers are pointing toward a larger bill, you know early enough to plan around it — whether that means adjusting drawings, timing a purchase, or simply setting money aside. Which is, frankly, the way it should be.

🤝

An Accountant You Can Actually Reach

Questions about the budget get answered the day you ask them — by phone, email, or the same communication channel your business already uses. There is no queue, no portal ticket, and no waiting until the next scheduled call. Clients consistently mention response time as one of the things that makes the relationship work.

Getting started

Up and running in four straightforward steps

The first conversation costs nothing and commits you to nothing. Most clients are properly set up and reviewing a working budget within a few weeks of getting in touch.

1

Get in touch

Call 0161 706 1523, email info@edwardharris.co.uk, or fill in the contact form. We reply the same day. The initial conversation is free and there is no pressure to proceed.

2

We discuss your situation

We will ask about how your business is structured, what software you are currently using, and what you are trying to understand or control. If your books are behind, that is fine — catch-up is handled as part of getting started.

3

Your budget is built

Once we have access to your accounts, we build the budget against your historical figures and planned activity. It is set up in your cloud software and explained in plain English — no spreadsheet handed over without a walkthrough.

4

You know where you stand

From here, the budget is reviewed at regular intervals and updated as the business changes. You stop making spending decisions on instinct and start making them against a current picture of your cash position. Considerably less to think about.

Questions

Things people usually ask before getting started

Is this just a spreadsheet, or does the budget connect to my actual accounts?+

The budget is built directly inside your cloud accounting software — Xero, QuickBooks Online, or FreeAgent, depending on what you use. That means your actual income and expenditure is automatically compared to the plan each month. There is no separate spreadsheet to maintain, and you do not need to chase anyone for an update.

What does budgeting support cost, and what is included?+

Pricing is fixed monthly and based on the scope of your requirements — the complexity of your accounts, how frequently you want reviews, and whether cash flow forecasting is included alongside the budget. We will give you a clear quote at the end of the initial conversation, before you decide anything. No hourly rates and no bill that arrives at an unexpected size.

My books are behind and inconsistent — can you still build a useful budget?+

Yes. It is common to start with accounts that are not in order, and catch-up bookkeeping is handled as part of getting set up. A budget built on inaccurate historical figures is not much use, so we get the books into shape first. The catch-up cost is agreed in advance so there are no surprises.

Is there a long-term contract or minimum commitment?+

No long-term contract. We work on a rolling monthly basis. If the arrangement is not working for you, you give notice and your books are transferred cleanly — nothing owed beyond the current month. We would rather earn your business month to month than lock you into something.

How often is the budget reviewed and updated?+

Typically quarterly, though this is adjusted depending on how quickly your business changes. A seasonal business or one going through rapid growth will usually benefit from more frequent check-ins. The review is a short conversation — you do not need to prepare anything — and finishes with an updated forecast for the months ahead.

Can the budget help me see what my tax bill is likely to be?+

Yes, and this is one of the more practical benefits. Once the budget is running alongside your live accounts, corporation tax or self assessment liability is estimated from your current figures throughout the year. If the projected bill is larger than expected, you know in time to consider your options — rather than finding out when the accounts are filed.

Ready when you are

Stop running your business on instinct alone.
