Sound familiar?
Still doing your own books at the weekend?
Most sole traders in Manchester start off managing their own finances because it seems manageable. Then the invoices stack up, the expense receipts go missing, and the Self Assessment deadline creeps closer than it should. It is not that the numbers are impossible — it is that they keep landing in your lap at the wrong moment.
- Self Assessment looming with records still in a spreadsheet or a drawer
- No clear idea what your tax bill will be until it arrives
- Hours spent on admin that belong in the business, not on the accounts
What sorted looks like for a sole trader
Your records are current, your tax position is visible, and someone who knows what they are doing is keeping an eye on it throughout the year. Which is, frankly, the way it should be.
- Self Assessment filed on time with everything accounted for correctly
- Tax bill calculated and communicated well before the payment date
- Bookkeeping handled monthly so year-end is a formality, not a crisis
- Fixed monthly fee — no surprise invoices for things you thought were included
What sole traders say after switching to us
These are clients who came to us managing their own accounts. Most left the first conversation considerably less worried than when they arrived.
Hasan has been amazing and extremely helpful he has been very patient with me being new to running a business, he had given me some great advice and I will continue to use Edward Harris & Hasan
We have been working with Hasan for almost a year. He’s been very helpful providing us with knowledge as new business owners. It’s great we can WhatsApp for general queries, making communication more efficient.
Everything a sole trader’s accounts require
A fixed monthly fee covers the compliance work and the year-round support — so you are not paying extra every time you have a question or something changes.
Self Assessment and Tax Returns
Your annual Self Assessment is prepared and filed on time, with your tax liability calculated in plain English before submission. You will know what you owe and when to pay it — no surprises when HMRC sends the calculation. Income from multiple sources, allowable expenses, and any relevant reliefs are all accounted for correctly.
Included as standardBookkeeping and Cloud Accounting
Monthly bookkeeping keeps your records current and your numbers readable throughout the year. We work with Xero, QuickBooks, and FreeAgent, so your accounts are in order whether you prefer to check in regularly or leave it entirely to us. Clean books mean a faster, cheaper year-end.
Cloud software includedTax Planning and Proactive Advice
Beyond filing the return, there is often a more tax-efficient way to structure what you earn, claim, and invest. Year-round support means you can ask questions as things happen rather than reconstructing the year from memory in January. VAT registration thresholds are monitored — you will not cross one without knowing about it first.
Year-round supportConsistently 5 stars across every review
Six Google reviews, all five stars. Sole traders, new business owners, and owner-managed businesses — different situations, same experience.

Why sole traders in Manchester choose us
There is no shortage of accountants in Greater Manchester. Here is what is different about working with Hasan.
Questions answered the day you ask
Sole traders often have questions that do not fit neatly into an annual review. Can I claim this? Do I need to register for VAT? What counts as an allowable expense here? Those questions get answered the same day by someone who already knows your numbers. No waiting weeks for a callback.
Tax bill visible before the deadline
Your Self Assessment is not prepared in a rush the week it is due. Proactive year-round bookkeeping means your tax position is visible throughout the year, so the bill is calculated and communicated well in advance. Unexpected tax demands are largely avoidable when the records are current.
Patient with new and growing businesses
Many sole traders who come to us are running a business for the first time. There is no assumption that you already understand how PAYE, VAT thresholds, or allowable expenses work. Jargon-free explanations come as standard — and there is no such thing as a question too basic to ask.
Up and running in four straightforward steps
Most new clients are fully onboarded within a week. The first conversation costs nothing and commits you to nothing.
Get in touch
Call 0161 706 1523, email info@edwardharris.co.uk, or use the contact form. We reply the same day. Initial conversations are free and without pressure.
Free initial conversation
We will talk through your situation — what you earn, how you are currently managing the books, and what is causing the most friction. You will leave the call knowing exactly what would be covered and what it would cost.
We handle the transition
If you are switching from another accountant or catching up from scratch, we manage that process. Previous records are reviewed, gaps are identified, and cloud accounting is set up so your books are current going forward.
Focus on your business
Tax deadlines are managed. Bookkeeping is handled. Your tax bill is visible months ahead. You get on with running the business while we handle the parts that were eating your evenings.
“I cannot rate this company highly enough. I started off with an incredible expensive company who I could never reach or get good advice from – then THANKFULLY found Hasan who has been our accountant ever since. He always responds to messages and calls so quickly, has a wealth of knowledge and experience and is absolutely trustworthy.”
Things sole traders usually ask us first
I have income from a few different sources — can you still handle my Self Assessment?
Yes. Self Assessment returns with multiple income sources — employment, self-employment, rental income, dividends — are straightforward for us to handle. We will ask the right questions to make sure everything is declared correctly and that you are claiming all the reliefs you are entitled to. No need to pre-sort it all before getting in touch.
What does it cost, and what is included?
Pricing is fixed monthly and agreed upfront, so there are no hourly billing surprises. What is covered depends on your turnover and what you need — at minimum, Self Assessment and bookkeeping review are included. We will give you a clear quote at the end of the first conversation, and it will not change unless your circumstances change significantly.
My books are behind. Is that a problem when switching?
It is very common. Most sole traders who come to us are not starting from a clean position — receipts are missing, bank feeds have not been reconciled, or the previous year’s return was filed late. We will assess what needs catching up, tell you what it will take to sort it, and get things back on track. It is handled, not held against you.
Am I locked in to a long-term contract?
No. There is no minimum term. If after a few months it is not the right fit, you leave with clean, up-to-date books and nothing outstanding. We would rather earn your business month by month than tie you into something you cannot exit.
Do I need to register for VAT as a sole trader?
Only if your taxable turnover exceeds the current VAT registration threshold in any rolling 12-month period — which HMRC sets at £90,000 as of 2024. Your turnover is monitored as part of the ongoing service, so you will not cross the threshold without knowing about it. If registration does become necessary, we handle the process and any ongoing VAT returns.
Can I reduce my tax bill as a sole trader, or is what I pay just what I pay?
There is usually more to review than most sole traders realise — allowable expenses, use-of-home claims, capital allowances, pension contributions, and the timing of income and expenditure can all affect your liability. We look at this as part of the ongoing service, not as a one-off add-on. The goal is that you are not paying more than you need to.
