Sound familiar?
Construction admin eating into your working week?
Most trades and construction business owners are running jobs, managing subcontractors, and chasing invoices — then trying to fit accounting in around the edges. CIS is its own system entirely. VAT on labour versus materials catches people out. And when year-end comes around, everything lands at once.
- ✕ CIS deductions miscalculated or subcontractor statements filed late
- ✕ No clear picture of profit once materials, labour, and subbies are accounted for
- ✕ VAT and tax bills arriving as a surprise rather than something planned for
What sorted looks like
A construction accountant who already knows how CIS, VAT, and subcontractor payments work means you are not explaining your trade before getting useful answers. Everything runs in the background — you stay focused on the work.
- ✓ CIS payroll and deduction statements handled accurately every month
- ✓ Management figures show real profit after all job costs — no guesswork
- ✓ Tax and VAT liabilities visible in advance so nothing arrives as a shock
- ✓ Fixed monthly fee — no surprise invoices from your accountant either

Why construction businesses choose us
There are plenty of accountants. Fewer who already know how CIS works, what VAT on mixed labour and materials looks like, and what a subcontractor statement should say before you ask.
No explaining your trade first
CIS deductions, subcontractor verification, domestic reverse charge VAT — these are not concepts you will need to explain before getting a useful answer. Construction accounting is a distinct area with its own rules, and it is handled here as routine, not as a special case.
Tax bills planned for, not discovered
Proactive year-round support means your Corporation Tax or Self Assessment liability is visible months before it falls due. You will not be asked to find a large sum at short notice because nobody looked ahead. That is, frankly, the way it should work.
Questions answered the day you ask
Same-day replies are a commitment, not an aspiration. Construction jobs move quickly and a question about a subcontractor payment or a VAT treatment sometimes needs answering today, not at the next scheduled review. Contact by phone, email, or WhatsApp — whichever is quickest.
Up and running in four steps
Most clients are set up and their first month is underway within a week of the initial conversation. There is no long form to fill in before you can speak to anyone.

Call 0161 706 1523, email info@edwardharris.co.uk, or use the contact form. Replies arrive the same day. The initial conversation is free and without any pressure to proceed.
Talk through your situation
A straightforward conversation about your business, how your books currently stand, and what you need. No jargon, no sales pitch. You leave knowing exactly what is included and what it costs.
We handle the transition
If you are switching from another accountant, the transfer is managed for you. If the books are behind, a catch-up is costed separately and agreed upfront — no hidden charges discovered later.
Back to the work you do
Once everything is set up, the accounting runs in the background. CIS returns go out on time, VAT is filed, and your tax position is visible whenever you need it. Considerably less to think about.
“We have been working with Hasan for almost a year. He’s been very helpful providing us with knowledge as new business owners. It’s great we can WhatsApp for general queries, making communication more efficient.”
Things construction clients usually ask
Do you handle CIS payroll and subcontractor statements as part of the service?
Yes — CIS is covered as standard for construction clients. That includes verifying subcontractors with HMRC, calculating the correct deduction rate, making monthly CIS returns, and issuing deduction statements. If you have subcontractors on different rates or a mix of employed and self-employed workers, that is handled within the same arrangement.
What does it cost, and what is actually included?
Pricing is fixed monthly, agreed upfront, and does not change unless your requirements do. There are no hourly rates or unexpected invoices for a phone call or an email question. The exact figure depends on the size and complexity of the business — a sole trader and a limited company running ten subcontractors will be priced differently. The initial conversation is free and you will leave it with a clear number.
My books are behind and my previous accountant left things in a mess. Can you still help?
This is not an unusual starting point. A catch-up piece of work is quoted separately before anything is agreed, so there are no surprises about what it will cost to bring things current. Once that is done, ongoing work runs on the fixed monthly fee. Switching from another accountant is straightforward — the transfer paperwork is handled as part of onboarding.
Is there a long-term contract or a notice period if I want to leave?
No long-term contract. You are not locked in. If things are not working after a few months, you can leave — and your books will be in order when you do. The aim is that you stay because the service is useful, not because you signed something.
Do you deal with the domestic reverse charge for VAT in construction?
Yes. The domestic reverse charge for construction services applies to most VAT-registered subcontractors and main contractors, and getting it wrong in either direction creates problems. The rules around which supplies it applies to, how invoices should be worded, and how it is accounted for in a VAT return are handled as part of the standard construction accounting service.
Can you help me understand whether I should be operating as a sole trader or a limited company?
It is one of the most common questions from trades business owners and the answer depends on your turnover, how you take money out, and what your longer-term plans are. The initial conversation will cover this if it is relevant to your situation — there is no charge for that discussion, and you will leave with a clear view of the options rather than a vague recommendation.
Less time on the paperwork, more on the job.
A fixed monthly fee, same-day replies, and an accountant who already knows how construction accounting works. The initial conversation is free and without pressure.
